the ramble

This Year Studio STK has helped organize the Old North End Ramble.

What is it?

a:Here's what Jen Berger has to say:
"For those unfamiliar with The Ramble, it has been described as a free for
all in the old north end. It's a day to hold a variety of activities
throughout the neighborhood. Some major events this year include The
Old North End Parade, Crombie Street Block Festival, performances by
Very Special Arts at Studio STK, a community graffiti mural (made by YOU) at Kriya Studio, a bike parade, and a big closing party at 294 North Winooski Ave. Artists are encouraged to open their studios, businesses are encouraged to hold special offers or host artists work, residents are encouraged to hold yard sales, anything goes.....
Ramble On!"

Please come out and see all that is going on, Rain or Shine. Check out the community Murals Being done at Kyria Studio.

I am very pleased..

I am very pleased..with this painting. It is one foot by one foot. I first started with brush stokes, then stuck an old drawings into in, then a piece of a painting from a kid. I drew on it, covered parts up, so on and so forth. I have not made a painting in months that feels like I am moving forward...This piece does that for me. Now I will look at it for a month and see what it is that feels like progress...any thoughts for me?

Does an artist need a website?

mmmm....YES,
Now a days the art world is running a muck. The right things to do first is fallow your own in-stinks. Second ask yourself what you want your art to do. Third how important is it to get your work out there.
After figuring that out ask your self is my work easily excess-able. If you say no not really to your self, get a website. Most artist now a day can apply to a gallery in second. I get tons of submissions, and though it is great to quickly look at work on the web it still does not give me what i need to show the work. It does however make our lives here at Studio STK much easier. I can get info like artist statements, drag images so Miss. Amanda can make postcards. When Marc from Seven-days comes in i can say hey check out so and so website for more info. It also is great to network with fellow artist "if you look at mine, I will look at yours"

Don't have one?
Well that is why Studio STK now more then ever can help the art community. We make awesome websites for artist and yes they are very affordable. Artist tend not to have much $$ when starting out, we believe that it is important to give the same opportunities that financial successful artist get.

"you don't have a website" can also mean "are you serious about you work", "do you want people to see it"

Now a days there are so many websites for artist
www.deviantart.com
www.artrevelutionaries.com

there are way more, so google away and see what you can find.

The artworld now is much friendlier because Artist actually have the power to get them self's out there.
So be powerful and successful in your own art world.

Paint-what do you think......this is how i feel

Situational melancholy excites doubt, making love to one self as the untouchable figure in my mind. Paint is the cultural element that engages and makes one stop, to be tolerant of mistakes - mascara on the ugly. Trying to simulate that gooeyness promotes of defeat. Covering it up like the gut with high-rise panties. Uneducated about one thing and very smart about another. Trying not to be perfect, perfection is an end. The Comcast of visual imagery to make one enter it rather then wanting to run away. Tranquil colors to sooth the pain. Working in layers and layers to hide, give and protect. The menace in society paint is. Film is the abstract truth. When bouncing from image to goals I have to let the messy be part of the finish.

Hot really Hot

We have a new show up this week, opening this Friday 6-9pm. IT IS HOT. Reid Crosby and Ash Larose are showing how artist are sensual and sassy. I want to share with you how Reid is the most professional artist I have ever seen.

1. He shows up the day and time he says he will.
2. All his art is titled, priced and ready to hang.
3. He provides diagrams on how to hang.
4. His web site is up to date to promote his show.

I want all to take Reids process of handling his relationship with the curator and ponder. Ask your self:
Do I prepare all my work to hang?
Do I have titles prices ect, figured out before I deliver the work?
Have I even check my website, updated it for my show?
Am I o time and reliable?

I ask myself this and I admit when I show in galleries I can not say yes to all my own questions. I will work on it. I hope you to too.

Please share with me experiences you may have had with curators...

This is my favorite piece of mail I ever got. It is Tumble weed......It is art.....
What was your favorite piece of Mail?
Is it Art?

First Thoughts

Here at Studio STK we have tons of art, lots of artist and lots of thoughts.
Today I am starting the Artist to Artist Blog. This is to help my fellow peers connect, chat, comment and rant on the Vermont art scene. I will tell you what I like, dislike and ect. each couple of days I will hit a topic, such as professional development, artist opportunities and things to see. You may ask me questions and give your thoughts.

Todays Breaking news...... TWO articles in Seven-daysOne review and one article about our Secret Movie night pick up your copy today.

A reminder to all you artist...Life drawing sessions here Thursday nights at 6pm. $8.00 with nude model. When I was in art school for two years I had 6 hours a week of life drawing. It is an amazing way to develop your skills and even if you don't use the figure in your own work it can be helpful even with abstract.

I will warn you all I am a terrible speller, I use spell check but due to my learning differences sometimes it will not pick up my mistakes: Hence I am a Artist not a journalist.
